01 — CUSTODY CONSIDERATIONS
12:12
🚨 YOUR BITCOIN IS GONE?!?!?!?!?!
British HODL discusses self-custody responsibilities and why some holders consider an ETF.
Bitcoin to IBIT
Considering moving some or all of your spot Bitcoin into IBIT? Understand the process, the custody trade-offs and the questions to ask before requesting a conversation.
bitcoinetfAvailability, minimum size and terms must be confirmed by the provider. This is an enquiry, not a transaction.
Creations & Redemptions
Two-way loop. In-kind creation: spot Bitcoin is delivered and new IBIT shares are created. In-kind redemption: baskets of IBIT shares are redeemed and spot Bitcoin is returned. Both run through authorised participants and the relevant intermediary.
Client access in either direction is subject to eligibility, minimums, fees and provider terms. Individual IBIT shares are not directly redeemable by holders.
Creation and redemption terms (opens the IBIT prospectus in a new tab)No commission. No referral fee.
I do not charge you or receive any commission, referral fee or other compensation in connection with your conversion. My role here is to explain the option and point you to the enquiry form—not to take custody of your Bitcoin or execute a transaction.
No payment to British HODL does not mean the conversion is free. The provider and your broker may charge fees, and IBIT has ongoing fund expenses.
Three ways an IBIT position can fit into a wider wealth strategy.
01
Hold Bitcoin exposure in your brokerage account while the trust’s custodians manage the underlying Bitcoin. Remove private-key storage and wallet-recovery responsibilities for that allocation, and keep it alongside your wider portfolio.

02
With broker approval, use covered calls on IBIT shares to collect option premiums, or protective puts and collars to manage downside exposure.
These are separate investor strategies—not income paid by IBIT itself. Covered calls alone do not protect against a large decline.
03
Where a lender accepts IBIT as collateral, explore access to liquidity without an immediate sale of your shares. Pricing and borrowing limits depend on account size, collateral and banking relationships.
Collateral eligibility and permitted use of loan proceeds must be confirmed with the lender.
Three briefings
Three British HODL videos on custody, the conversion process and possible uses of IBIT.
01 — CUSTODY CONSIDERATIONS
12:12
British HODL discusses self-custody responsibilities and why some holders consider an ETF.
02 — THE IN-KIND PROCESS
19:05
An explanation of the enquiry, due-diligence and intermediary process discussed in the video.
03 — ACCESS AND IBIT USE CASES
12:49
A follow-up on access, redemptions and brokerage use cases discussed at the time of recording.
01
In-kind creations exchange Bitcoin for new IBIT shares; in-kind redemptions exchange eligible baskets of shares for Bitcoin. Both operate through authorised participants and relevant intermediaries, not a direct retail wallet swap with BlackRock.
02
Holding IBIT shares can remove the need to manage the private keys for the exposure held in the fund. In exchange you rely on the trust, its custody arrangements and your broker. You own shares, not personally controlled Bitcoin or an individually redeemable claim to coins.
03
Changing the structure does not remove Bitcoin price risk. Consider fees, tracking difference, trading hours and your own custody and inheritance goals.
Step 01
Watch the videos and read current documents.
Step 02
Use the existing enquiry form. The provider must confirm current eligibility, minimums, onboarding and terms.
Step 03
Review fees, settlement, custody and tax treatment with your own advisers before any instructions or asset movement.
Open the enquiry form to request a discussion. There is no obligation to convert, and the provider must confirm whether the process is available to you.
bitcoinetfBritish HODL receives no commission, referral fee or other conversion compensation.
This opens an external Tally form. Review the form's privacy information and who will receive your details before submitting. Never share seed phrases, private keys, wallet passwords or brokerage login credentials. Do not send Bitcoin to British HODL.
No universal eligibility is stated here. The provider and relevant intermediaries must confirm current availability, minimum size, geography, onboarding and terms.
Do not assume an in-kind transfer is tax-free. The treatment depends on the transaction structure and your jurisdiction and circumstances. Obtain advice from your own qualified tax adviser before proceeding.
Direct creations and redemptions are made in baskets by authorised participants. An individual brokerage holding is not automatically redeemable for Bitcoin by its owner; any intermediary-assisted route must be separately confirmed.
No. British HODL does not charge or receive a commission, referral fee or other conversion compensation. Securities referrals and transaction-based compensation can raise broker-dealer registration requirements. Receiving no compensation does not by itself determine regulatory status.
Potential provider and broker charges must be confirmed, and IBIT has ongoing fund expenses. Review the current official product page, prospectus and any terms supplied before deciding.
